The Society's principal publications are the Journal and the Bibliography. The Journal,
published each December, is one of the UK’s leading periodicals in the field. Medieval
castles of the British Isles have always been one of the particular strengths of
the journal, but there are no geographical limits to its range, which continues to
expand. Selected pdf articles from the Journal issues of from two or more years ago
are freely available for consultation on-line here. All subscribing members receive
the journal as part of the membership package.
The 2009-10 issue is now available. The cover image of Adare Castle and bridge is
taken from the Annual Proceedings section, a 100+ page summary of the CSG’s Annual
Conference in Limerick in 2009. Other articles include a detailed account of the
history of machicolation, an examination the re-creation of Kenilworth’s Elizabethan
privy garden, a report of the Dover Great Tower Conference, a recent re-examination
of Colchester Castle donjon, and a discussion of current revisionist debates in castle
studies. The Journal concludes with an article by the CSG’s founder Bob Higham about
Richard, Earl of Cornwall and his West Country castles.
