CSG Events, Conferences & Study Tours
The annual CSG field-based Conference is held in early April, the dates depending
on the academic year timetable. Normally the venue is somewhere within the British
Isles and the areas are selected between two to three years in advance. Previous
conferences are listed here. The duration is usually four days, starting on a Thursday
evening, and finishing on Sunday afternoon.
Each day’s itinerary covers 4 - 6 castle sites and there are usually one or two evening
lectures during the conference, held after dinner. A site guide is nominated beforehand
who will introduce the site and highlight any recent academic research. The Annual
General Meeting normally takes place on the Saturday evening. Accommodation is usually
in college Halls of Residence.
The next Conference is 12-15 April 2012, based at Durham. Details here
Additionally, during the year, normally in late summer, there is a more informal
study tour of an area within mainland Europe, arranged by one of our members or by
an associate specialising in overseas group tours. This section also includes details
of symposia, study days and conferences organised by other societies and heritage
bodies that will be of interest to members.
